Mir Castle, Belarus.
Construction of Mir Castle began at the end of the 15th century. The land (and the architectural vision of the construction) changed hands a couple times before its completion in the mid-16th century - what started out as a Gothic castle was completed in Renaissance style.
The castle was heavily damaged in Napoleon’s invasion of Russia, and lay empty for about a century afterwards. In the late 1800s, the Radziwiłłs, the Polish aristocratic family who owned the castle, sold it to a local Russian prince, who rebuilt it to its former glory.
During World War II, the occupying Nazis used the castle to imprison the local Jewish population before massacring them.
Today Mir Castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Porto Palermo Castle, near Himarë, Albania.
The history behind the construction of this castle is a bit muddled. Apparently its construction is usually attributed to 19th century Albanian nobleman, but the author of the Wikipedia article believes that story is propaganda invented by the communist regime, and that it was probably built by Venice.
Anyone know?
