March 1, 1893 - Nikola Tesla makes the first public demonstration of radio communication, in St. Louis, Missouri.

(Tesla was born an ethnic Serb in what was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and is now Croatia, although he became an American citizen as an adult.)
